Okay, so not always. Sometimes 1+1+1+1+1=insanity...or headaches...or massive crayon murals on your dining room wall. But mostly 1+1+1+1+1=fun.
I have five kids. The oldest is 10, and the youngest is 2. This sometimes makes things complicated in my house. For example, the two-year-old just knocked down the seven-year-old's block tower. This requires intervention. I'm the designated intervener.
Oh thank goodness, my husband intervened, so I can keep telling you about all the joys of big families.
Where was I? Block towers...? Fighting...? Me, too worn out to move from my seat...?
Well, this post is going just as planned.
Let me start over.
The thing is that having 5 children means a lot of opportunities to see blossoming and emerging personalities.
For example, my 10-year-old just came to tell us that since he couldn't find his toothbrush, he used his younger brother's. His younger brother wants to know why his toothbrush is wet. Meanwhile the baby is using my toothbrush. I don't know where she got it.
Hold that thought. I'll be right back.
Okay so we've now covered...toothbrushes...communal germs...and unsupervised toddlers.
I guess what I'm trying to say, is that my life is busy, exciting, and filled with a bunch of little people who keep me running around in circles.
Like the kid who just got done pretend sneezing and ended up really spitting on my floor.
And what's not fun about that?

I too am a mother of five! They are not little people anymore...they are 19,21,25, 26, and 27. Plus I have a step daughter that is 23. My last just graduated and moved for college. The house should be quiet but it's not...that's a whole 'nother story. I remember those days all to well, that you are now experiencing...yes, there were tough days but the good far out weighed the hard days. I love having a big family and now when we get together (which is rare because all of them but 1 live out of state)we really have a fun time!
Just remember to keep your sense of humor every day because you will need it and it will help you get through those moments...which from reading your blog it sounds like you do.
I'm sure you have trying times, but I'm also betting the joy outweighs the trials by a long shot.
Hang in there!
My friend, I can barely keep my sanity with THREE kidlets, let alone five. You are my hero.
Oh I imagine things are wonderful at events like holidays - I come from a small family, married someone from a small family...we have a small family. We just 'adopt' everyone along the way.
I'm a little jealous :)
I love how much you enjoy being mom to your kids. You can totally tell in your posts. We only have 3 so it is less insane... kind of... but I agree, ohh so much fun!!
Hooray for moms of 5! I have five children as well. My oldest will be 10 in October. My youngest is 6 months. There is always something going on around here. ;cD
I heartily second this! We just had our 6th last Tuesday, and for all the craziness, it is the best in the world.

First, your blog is absolutely adorable.
Second, I have no idea how you find the time to hop on your computer with five kids in your home.
Finally, I am one of five and had a great childhood. There was always someone home to entertain me, the youngest and only girl. Enjoy all of them as time goes fast. :)
Love your blog! We have six kids (9 and under) and consider them a blessing--works for us, too, most of the time. :)
God bless!
Love your post!!! As I sat here reading it my 2 year old threw a crayon at my 5 year old son, my oldest daughter came downstaris crying because her sister yelled at her. I have four kids (7,5,5,2) and it never ends! But you are right, it works for me and I love love love it!!!!

Is communal toothbrushes not the norm? Seems like a normal solution for lost toothbrushes to me.
Yes, oh yes can i relate. I am a mommy of 7. My littles definately keep me busy too.
As a matter of fact just the other day my 2 and 3 yo's made it snow in my livingroom with baby powder. How fun is that? :-) Of course it wasn't too fun when mom made them clean it all up, but it made for great pictures for me! They, of course, didn't know that I found it a tad funny and creative.
Yes, my hands are full. I wouldn't trade it for anything though.
I too have 5 kids! Ages 18 months to 7. Fun fun fun! I love it though! Complete chaos (this was erased twice by one child) and loads of love!
As the mm of an only child (by choice), I love hearing about large families. While I knew it wasn't the choice for me, I love reading about others' experiences!
Lover it! You are so funny. You should have a blog.
I loved this. It's how I write most posts. And that's why I have bags under my eyes, because I stay up too late writing the other ones.
That was a beautiful post. I only have one child and I'm always amazed when I see moms with a bunch of kids and how calm they always seem....
I only have three boys, but it feels like 19 sometimes. They are constantly "pretending" to do things, and the result is even worse than if they had really just done the action! Pretty fun-
You are great...I am really enjoying reading your blog! I am also a mother of 5 going on 6. I really liked the shower story the best so far I have to say. We also had the same idea for blog ideas today! I'll keep reading...
We don't have that much going on, but enough. I do not know how you do it every day!!
this post gave me the biggest smile. thank you!
Children are a blessing! We have 5 boys. Yes, things are crazy but fun.
